To celebrate National Health Center Week, Independence Blue Cross Foundation screens new documentary about a Blue Safety Net clinic

'Clínica de Migrantes' follows the patients and workers at Puentes de Salud in South Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – August 9, 2016 – The Independence Blue Cross Foundation (Foundation) celebrated National Health Center Week with a private screening of an award-winning new film Clínica de Migrantes: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The documentary follows the workers and patients of Puentes de Salud, a volunteer-run clinic that provides free medical care to undocumented immigrants in South Philadelphia.

Through its Blue Safety Net and Nursing Internship Programs, the Foundation has a strong partnership with Puentes de Salud. Since 2011, The Foundation has awarded nearly $13 million through the Blue Safety Net program to nonprofit community health centers that provide access to quality, affordable health care in underserved communities.

Along with revealing these patients' experiences, the film puts a face on the millions of people existing on the margins of society, and offers a look at the heroic doctors and nurses who work tirelessly to ensure these patients receive care.

Following the screening, the Foundation hosted a discussion with the film's director Maxim Pozdorovkin and the Executive Director of Puentes de Salud, Dr. Steve Larson.
