President's Message

Welcome!

In 2011, the Independence Blue Cross Foundation (Foundation) was founded with one mission: to lead sustainable solutions to improve the health and well-being of the communities in which we live, work, and serve. Our work is much broader than our grant making, it is informed by our most important stakeholder — our community.

We act as a leading voice in addressing the greatest challenges facing our region and our nation. We connect research, programs, and policy to advance health equity. We innovate to change policies and practices that impede good health. We collaborate with stakeholders in government, health care, higher education, the nonprofit sector, and philanthropy to meet the needs of diverse communities. We lead strategic and sustainable initiatives that positively impact the health of all people.

Today, we have much to celebrate. By the end of 2022, the Foundation will have awarded nearly $70 million in charitable grants and to research, enabling the region's nonprofits to address health disparities, improve access to care in underserved communities, and serve our neighbors in need.

With the support of the Independence Health Group leadership team, including President and CEO Gregory E. Deavens, the Foundation will lead bigger and bolder initiatives. We are proud of the Foundation's remarkable achievements in our first decade and look forward to all that we will accomplish together in our future.

Yours in good health,

Lorina Marshall-Blake
